Ottawa’s Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN) and Montreal-based Sensio Technologies Inc. signed a multi-year license agreement under mostly undisclosed terms. WiLAN is permitted to have an exclusive license for Sensio patents that have to do with 3-D technology for digital displays, as well as switching technologies. WiLAN also has exclusive rights on Sensio patents “within a specific field of use”, although the firms did not disclose what use that is. Net revenues will be shared between the parties, and Sensio will also receive an upfront payment.
DragonWave Inc. (TSX:DWI) announced five new customers in Nigeria. The microwave backhaul provider signed deals with Mobitel, Netcom, MainOne, Spectranet, and Monacom for products relating to high-capacity, 4G/LTE-capable backhaul networks. Financial terms were not released.
Solace Systems’ unified messaging platform will be used by Mercuria Energy Group, a global energy trading firm, as the backbone of Mercuria’s trading system. The Ottawa firm’s technology is intended to speed up information exchange within Mercuria’s data centres. Contract details were not disclosed. Solace’s hardware has the ability to look at information bits and then distribute them to subscribers based on their security level and preferences.
Espial’s TV browser, which allows users to perform actions such as surfing the web, will be used by Toshiba’s LED televisions in North America, the Ottawa firm stated. The product will include tabbed browsing, which Espial says is a first for TV browsers. Financial details were not released.
Harris Utilities’ customer engagement technology has been selected by PUC Distribution Inc. for undisclosed terms. CustomerConnect will be used in Sault Ste. Marie, adding on to Harris products that have been used in the area since 1985. The product was deployed in May across PUC’s 32,000 electric meters, as well as 3,000 meters for a related utility, and announced publicly in mid-September.
