WiLAN stated the portfolio spans the globe and that it has “broad applicability to 4G infrastructure and handsets.”
“Alvarion is one of the world's top suppliers of WiMAX, 4G and LTE systems,” stated WiLAN CEO Jim Skippen. “It has patented a number of key inventions we believe have relevance to both WiMAX and LTE."
On its website, Alvarion describes itself as a provider of wireless broadband solutions.
In its most recent quarterly results, WiLAN posted a net loss of $100,000, or less than a cent a share. The Ottawa firm said this was due to an increase in litigation expenses as well as an expected decrease in revenue.
