Halogen announced Mr. Ashe's appointment in a company release on Thursday.

During his time as CEO of Cognos Inc. – one of Ottawa’s most successful tech firms – Mr. Ashe helped grow the company into a multi-billion dollar business intelligence software giant. When IBM acquired Cognos in 2008 for $5 billion, Mr. Ashe led IBM’s business analytics division until March 2012.

He oversaw the management of Toronto-based analytics firm Algorithmics when it was acquired by IBM in 2011.

Mr. Ashe will bring his expertise to his new position on the board at Halogen, a local talent management software provider.

“We are very pleased to be able to attract such a renowned software veteran to our board,” stated Halogen chairman Michael Slaunwhite in a company release.

“Rob shares a strong understanding of our industry, a passion for people and a commitment to customer excellence. His tenure and expertise brings additional depth to our board and will help position us for long-term success.”

“My experience is that organizations with the best talent win – especially in this rapidly evolving and competitive market,” Mr. Ashe stated. “Halogen’s reputation for creating talent-rich organizations, and their SaaS-based solution for delivering on that promise, is exactly what today’s companies need.”
