The company, which has developed a program that makes user-interface design easier for mobile app developers, is now planning to increase its workforce by 30 per cent.
Having hired five people over the last two months, YOUi Labs currently has a staff of 30. Now it is planning to hire another seven or eight people over the next month. The new employees will include software engineers and user experience designers.
Because the company is so small, it’s a “big number to add,” said marketing director Matthew Nelson.
The company is also building a new office space that will have three times the company’s current space.
“It’s our third move in three years,” said Mr. Nelson.
The company’s software tools allows app designers to create a single user interface in an animation program and then export it to multiple mobile operating systems, including Apple’s iOS 7 and Android.
“You can write once and use it with everything,” he said.
“There’s a ton of opportunity for companies, but it’s hard to do,” he added.
Designing user interfaces can be particularly challenging for the Android platform because it has so many different versions, Mr. Nelson said.
He said that companies often use separate teams to develop user interfaces for different operating systems, which can cause them to “develop to the lowest common denominator.”
YOUi Labs has posted revenue growth of 689 per cent over the past two years.
In August PROFIT Magazine named YOUi number 25 on its list of top 50 growth companies.
