The employees “were part of BlackBerry’s product development and wireless technology teams,” the company said in an e-mailed statement.

The layoffs are part of part the company’s previously announced plan to return to profitability by reducing its staff by 40 per cent before May.

The news comes one day after the company announced it would be laying off 120 employees in Waterloo, Ont.

Blackberry shares were up three cents to $10.16 by early afternoon on Tuesday.

Well,it comes as no surprise to me that they are laying off Ottawa and Waterloo and consolidating in Toronto where there is likely a higher perchentage of workers to take the temporarily eliminated positions. This way they avoid relocation costs, well, at least I think they do . . . . That's what 88 million dollars in bonuses buys you these days.
