Shopify says it now has over 100,000 customers

Local startup success story Shopify is claiming to have reached another milestone.

The e-commerce provider says its products are now being used by over 100,000 retailers.

Tuesday’s announcement comes as the company is increasingly pushing offline, selling software that allows brick and mortar retailers to use tablets and phones as POS systems.

In December the company closed a $100-million venture capital investment deal, to support offline expansion.

The company says its products have been used to process over $4 billion in sales.

“Together, we are defining the future of retail,” wrote Tobias Lütke, Shopify’s cofounder and CEO, in a blog post. “The next chapter in commerce will be defined by the great merging: online, offline, mobile. It’s all just commerce now.”
