Gusto Worldwide Media has made good on the promise of its name with its first international media channel, bringing its made-in-Ottawa culinary programming to Singapore.

Gusto TV content will air on the television and internet streaming services of Singapore telecom StarHub. The move reflects CEO Chris Knight’s global ambitions.

"This is a major step to reaching our 2018 international expansion goals and we're happy that our first overseas channel launch will be in Singapore,” he said in a statement.

Knight told OBJ about his ambitious plans at the start of the year, which include investing more than $1 million of his own money in the development of a soundstage, commercial kitchen and post-production studio in Ottawa. While Bell Media has exclusive rights to Gusto’s Canadian content, Knight said he’s eyeing international markets such as Germany, India and China to take his production company to the next level.

While Ottawa isn’t known as a hotbed for media production, Knight told OBJ that the accessibility of internet streaming combined with Ottawa’s underdog status could mean a big opportunity for Gusto TV.

“There are a tremendous amount of opportunities in all of the content we do for all of this global expansion push,” he said. “It’s out of a business park in Ottawa, which I think is kind of cool.”
