Corel has appointed Patrick Nichols its new CEO, the Ottawa-based software company announced Thursday.
Mr. Nichols replaces Tom Berquist, who will continue as non-executive chairman of the company’s board of directors. Mr. Berquist also becomes operating partner of Vector Capital, Corel’s major shareholder.
Mr. Nichols joined Corel five years ago as president of its WinZip compression software branch and was also general manager of Corel, Roxio, Pinnacle and ReviverSoft.
“I’m confident that under Patrick and his management team’s leadership, Corel will continue to enjoy global success,” Mr. Berquist said in a statement.
“Over the past three years, the Corel management team has nearly tripled the company's operating income,” Mr. Nichols said in a statement. “Building on these achievements, our team looks forward to working together with Tom and Corel’s board of directors to realize the opportunities we see for our brands in the future.”
