As it looks to steepen its hockey-stick-like revenue trajectory, one of the capital’s hottest software firms is turning to someone very familiar with rapid growth to manage its books.
Field Effect announced late last week it has named veteran health-tech executive Peter Hunter its new chief financial officer.
Before joining the Glebe-based cybersecurity startup, Hunter had spent nearly four years in the same role at downtown Ottawa firm Fullscript. The online health-care platform is among the city’s biggest tech success stories of the past decade, twice topping OBJ’s list of fastest-growing companies and coming in at No. 2 on Canadian Business magazine’s list of the fastest-growing firms in the country last fall.
Hunter also served as CFO and chief operating officer at local health-tech startup Privacy Analytics from 2014-17, where he oversaw the company’s sale to U.S.-based IMS Health five years ago.
Field Effect CEO Matt Holland said Hunter’s varied business background will be a valuable asset for his new employer, which expects to triple its revenues this year and is closing in on the 200-employee mark.
“As we enter this next phase of rapid global growth, Peter's experience will be instrumental in helping us prepare the company for the maturity of a publicly traded company, and ultimately, helping further our mission to make intelligence-grade cyber security accessible to every company in the world,” Holland said in a statement.
Hunter said he was initially planning to “slow down and gain some perspective” after leaving Fullscript in March, but he said he couldn’t resist the opportunity to help lead Field Effect’s international expansion push.
The company opened an office in London last year, added employees in Sydney and Melbourne early in 2021 and is looking to establish a foothold in the U.S. and continental Europe.
“I truly believe that Field Effect has something special,” Hunter said in a statement. “The business model makes sense, the product-market fit is excellent and there's absolutely no one better suited to build a global cybersecurity company.”
