The Ottawa Music Coalition presents City Sounds music festival

Thanks to a generous investment of $70,000 from the City of Ottawa, the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC) is proud to host more than 40 free outdoor concerts all summer long as part of the 2nd annual City Sounds concert series. In partnership with local Business Improvement Associations (BIA), the series brings together the music industry and the business sector to work collaboratively in an effort to enliven public spaces.

Exponentially bigger than last year’s series, City Sounds 2022 features more than 40 performances by 80 local artists over a 10 week span in partnership with 13 BIAs. “This is such a great opportunity to show off Ottawa’s diverse talent throughout the city, in an accessible and safe way,” says newly appointed Executive Director and former touring artist Melanie Brulée. “We can’t think of a better way to spend the summer than being outside and supporting local businesses and talent.”

As the city re-opens and learns to adapt to living with Covid 19, attracting increased traffic tolocal businesses is vital to the recovery of Ottawa’s economy. City Sounds was born out of the Mayor’s Economic Partners Task Force, created to find ways to support Ottawa’s small businesses, restaurants, tourism operators and special events.

City Sounds seeks to address the following key objectives:
● Provide high-quality musical programming in Ottawa’s public spaces for the benefit of its
local residents and visitors;
● Create paid opportunities for local musicians and showcase local talent;
● Bring increased traffic to locations across Ottawa for the benefit of the surrounding local
businesses;
● Build collaborations between the business and music sectors.
